National Babywearing Week

Next week begins National Babywearing Week. I know I posted a picture of Sam in the Moby already, but to celebrate NBW, I thought I might post another one:

I love our Moby! Sam is so comfortable in it, and I use it all the time. My mom had the opportunity to see firsthand how great it is when I visited my parents in St. George. I wore Sam pretty much everywhere - the mall, the airport, the playground, and walks around the neighborhood. I must have been stopped at least 5 or 6 times by people- young and old - interested in it. There is something so right about carrying your child to your chest, and the Moby makes it comfortable and easy!

Nick also uses the Moby. Sometimes Sam gets fussy at night, and all he wants to do is be walked around the house. It can get pretty tiring on your arms, so Nick just pops him into the Moby and goes about his business. I wish I had a picture of the two of them!

I assume eventually I will move on from the Moby. Right now I am contemplating the Ergo next. Pricey, but I've heard some pretty great things about it. We already have the Bjorn, but I really want to try something new, and many people I know have raved about their Ergo. Any thoughts?

Ergos! They are great for back carries, if you aren't comfortable with your wrap on your back. I'm not a huge fan for front a front carrier, they aren't bad, but I think my wraps or Mei Tai's do just as good a job. They are probably one of the most simple carriers to use if you are used to something like a bjorn (I had one of those with Ian and it lasted about 4 months before I got rid of it. That thing HURT and he was a tiny baby!).

I personally think that a well made mei tai is just as comfortable, and a little cooler in the Texas summers, but I am sure it depends on your individual build. Every dad I know who has tried an Ergo has loved it.

My personal fav list would be mei tai, moby/ellaroo wraps, ergo, hotsling. They are all useful at different stages and with different kids personalities. (I love a meit tai in the summer, moby in the winter, and slings for my preschooler, the ergo for long outings and hikes outdoors or at the zoo). It's really difficult to give a recommendation for that reason.

So I guess my advice is to get one of everything. As long as you are having babies, they will have use.

I really want to get a moby for future babies, he looks so cozy in it! We really like our New Native. It is great for a hip-sitting toddler who constantly wants down and up and down and up, and it fits in my purse which is nice. It's biggest con is that it is sized so Rob can't wear it. Maybe for NBW (I had no idea) I should treat myself to a new carrier...the ergo does look versatile. I love you blog.

Okay, I'm converted. Where do I get one?!

By the way, you are amazing and I wish we were neighbors, too. I love getting to stalk your blog. : )

LOVE THIS PICTURE, Laura!! You should link up to the Babywearing Week link list at Adventures in Babywearing . . . http://www.adventuresinbabywearing.com/2008/11/im-kanga-to-her-roo.html

YES TO THE ERGO! I seriously could not live without it. I still wear AJ in it almost daily. I cannot say enough good things about it. I've only ever used it for back carries though as that is pretty much the only wearing I do after four or five months. TRULY hands-free. Love, love, love. Did I mention I love it? ;)

So what did you decide? Did you go for the ergo or something else? :)
